7⅜ Hat Size: Inches, CM & Hats That Fit

A 7⅜ hat fits about a 23⅛-inch (58.8 cm) head. Here is the exact range, how it compares to other men, and which brands' sizes match it.

A 7⅜ hat fits a head circumference of about 23⅛ inches (58.8 cm), covering heads from roughly 23.0 to 23.4 inches (58.4–59.3 cm). It is a larger-than-average size, one notch above the most common men's sizes, but still inside the range most regular hats are built for.

7⅜ hat size in inches and cm

Hat size Head (inches) Head (cm)
7¼ 22¾ (22.6–23.0) 57.9 (57.4–58.4)
7⅜ 23⅛ (23.0–23.4) 58.8 (58.4–59.3)
7½ 23½ (23.4–23.8) 59.8 (59.3–60.3)

The maths: 23.17 in ÷ 3.1416 = 7.375, which is 7⅜ (written 7 3/8 on a lot of labels). Full range on the hat size chart.

How common is a 7⅜ head?

In the US Army's ANSUR II survey (4,082 men and 1,986 women measured), the median head circumference was 57.4 cm for men and 56.0 cm for women, and the 95th percentile was 60.1 cm for men and 59.7 cm for women. A 7⅜ (58.4–59.3 cm) sits between the men's median and the 95th percentile: bigger than average, but below the top 5%. For women, 7⅜ is on the large side, just under the 95th percentile.

Do one-size caps fit a 7⅜?

Yes, usually. A 7⅜ is inside the published range of almost every one-size cap we checked, including New Era's 9FORTY (up to 23⅞ in), the Flexfit 110 (up to 7⅞) and the Richardson 112 (about 7–7¾). You should be on a middle snap, not the last one.

Does MONGO fit a 7⅜?

Honest answer: a 7⅜ is slightly below MONGO's range. Our snapbacks are built for 7½–8½ (23.6–26.7 in / 60–68 cm). On a 7⅜ head, a MONGO will probably feel roomy even on its tightest snap, and the deeper crown will sit lower than you may want.

So for most 7⅜ heads, a regular adjustable cap is the better buy. You probably don't need an XL hat.

The exception: if you measure at the very top of the band (about 23⅜ in / 59.3 cm), or regular caps feel shallow and you're already on the last snap, you may really be a 7½. Re-measure using our measuring guide. If you land on 23.6 in or more, MONGO fits, and the 30-day fit guarantee covers you if it doesn't.
